We champion efforts to increase men of color educators in PreK-12 classrooms.

We support Baltimore’s Children’s Cabinet Boys and Young Men of Color Work Group efforts to increase the presence of men of color in Baltimore City Schools.

The Context

Baltimore City Public Schools report Black men compose only 11% of its educator workforce, yet Black & Brown students comprise 80% of the district's classrooms. Research shows all students, especially boys of color, perform better academically when exposed to Black male educators grades Pre-K through 12.  More needs to be done to increase Black male representation in the teacher workforce.

We are proud to partner with and support the Center for Black Educator Development’s We Need Black Teachers national campaign to bring attention to the need for more Black teachers across the country.

The Context

Although 15% of the U.S. public school students identify as Black, Black teachers account for only 7% of public school educators. The number of Black teachers in the U.S. public school system needs to grow by 280,000 to be proportionate to the number of Black public school students.
